3:30-5:30pm @ Waggoner Park 1020 E Carver Rd, Tempe, AZ *Practice schedule is subject to change. Students will be notified in advance if they need to call their parent/guardian. Rides to and from practice are available from either Coach Hemmings or Coach Abel. Student athletes should be picked up at the park by 5:30pm or at the school by 5:45pm. Goals and Expectations from Coach Hemmings:
We have all come to the understanding that we as a team will be doing everything we can to accomplish this season's motto: All It Takes Is All You've Got!
In addition to myself, we also have a new Assistant Track and Field Coach this season. Stephen Abel is a grandfather of a couple of JMPS students and has a good amount of experience in Track and Field both in his days competing in high school and as a continual part of his fitness routine. His experience, passion for the sport, and coaching ability are assets that I am incredibly excited to have for this team for the season.
As a team, we would like to try and become one of the most decorated Track and Field teams that the school has had. But more importantly, it will be our goal to improve everyone's athletic ability and enjoy their time during this season. All of our efforts in practices and meets will be made to accomplish those goals. The student-athletes who show up to practices the most, continue to try to perform their best, seek additional coaching to personally improve themselves in their event(s), show improvement through every practice and meet, and consistently show the coaching staff and the team that they resemble the elements that embody a JMPS Patriot, will most likely be some of the most successful on the team and prepare themselves for the hard work and challenges that life will present.
This season we have a good mixture of experienced individuals who have been around and participated in Track and Field for an extended period of time and those who are either brand new or have not had a ton of experience. It is our personal goals as coaches to have everyone improve to the point where every student-athlete will become better athletes and teammates with the goal of finding both individual and team success in competition. It is not only performing well as an athlete that will determine their success this season. Like every other coach at the school, we want to see our players prioritize their academic studies and continue to show success in the classroom.
If an athlete is not upholding their commitment to their teachers for assignments or assessments, that player will be required to take a break from Track and Field until they have proven to their teachers and the administration that they can play sports without their grades suffering. For more questions on academic eligibility and other facets of the requirements JMPS gives its student-athletes, please refer to the JMPS Student Handbook.
