After spending a number of years observing from the outside and cheering on my children (as well as other family members and friends) while they participated in Patriot sports and extracurricular activities, I’m excited to join the stellar and steadfast JMPS staff. As the 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade language arts teacher, I hope to impart my love for words and the ways they work to my students. Although I come from a long line of teachers, I decided during college that I’d take a different career path. And for awhile, I did. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor's degree in journalism, and in the decades since, I’ve written, edited, and designed for newspapers, magazines, and books. Somehow, though, I’ve almost always found myself teaching — not only my own children, whom I homeschooled, but also students from other families in learning co-ops and online classes. My husband, Shawn, and I have lived in Tempe since we were married in 1995. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and playing the piano, as well as dabbling in photography and textile arts. Our four children have all enjoyed their time as “part-time Patriots,” playing a variety of sports. While the two oldest have graduated and moved on to college and career, the two youngest have joined me on the JMPS campus, where we are now excited to call ourselves “full-time Patriots.”
